Obituary of Alfred E. Luther

Alfred E. Luther, a resident of Darien, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 in Darien. Born in 1935 in Mount Vernon, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred E. Luther, Sr. and Helen Stiller Luther. He was 72. Alfred graduated from A.B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon, NY and received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Pratt Institute. He worked for various electrical companies in the Westchester and New York City area. He retired as president from Herbert G. Martin, Inc. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 3 and the N.E.C.A. (National Electrical Contractor's Association). He volunteered his time and his electrical expertise to the community including Zion Lutheran Church, Norwalk Quartette Club, Royle School, Boy Scouts and the Indian Guides and Princesses. In addition, he volunteered his electrical services to many friends. He is survived by his wife, Ursula Eckert Luther of Darien; one son, Christopher H. Luther of Darien; two daughters, Kristina M. Bangemann of Stuttgart, Germany and Nicole B. Casey also of Darien; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Betty DiGruttila of Stamford; 14 nieces and nephews and 17 great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road, Stamford on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM. A private family burial was held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT 06902 or to the charity of choice.
