Obituary of Carl Eric Lundberg

Carl Eric Lundberg of New Canaan, died on August 4, 2010. He was born in Tarrytown, NY, on September 15, 1908, the son of Ernest and Maria Ericson Lundberg. Mr. Lundberg was 101 years old. He lived in Scarsdale, NY, and in Darien and Stamford, CT before moving to New Canaan in 1946. He was married at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in 1937 to Marguerite Joan Benedict of New Canaan, CT. Mrs. Lundberg passed away in May 2008.
Mr. Lundberg graduated from Stamford High School in 1927 and was employed in the printing industry at Conde Nast Publications in Greenwich, CT, and later moved on to printing and production work at McFadden Publications in New York City. In the 1940s and for the next thirty years, he was active in the publishing field with Life-Study Fellowship of Darien, publisher of FAITH Magazine. During the 1970s and into the 1980s, he was a founder and officer of Precision Marketing Associates of Darien, CT and of the Garden Way Manufacturing Company of Troy, NY, producers of the Troy-Built rototiller.
Active in town affairs, Mr. Lundberg served on the Town Housing Authority of New Canaan for 20 years and was a past chairman. He was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Harmony Lodge in New Canaan and was also a member and past president of the Poinsettia Club of New Canaan. He was a member of the New Canaan Historical Society and was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of New Canaan, serving as an usher until the age of 90.
Mr. Lundberg was a long-time member of the Darien Kiwanis Club and was a charter member of the Country Club of Darien where he was an avid golfer, playing well into his nineties. In 2004, Mr. Lundberg was presented with the “Community Civic Award” by the Darien Old Timer’s Athletic Association.
Mr. Lundberg was also an active gardener, studied genealogy, and loved music and poetry, and together with his wife, travelled widely, visiting all fifty states and many countries of the world. Most of all he loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Surviving are two sons, Theodore Eric Lundberg of New Canaan, CT and Carl David Lundberg of New Fairfield, CT. Another son, William Benedict Lundberg died in infancy. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Audrey Joan Heffermehl of Brookfield and Katherine Irene Wheeler of Newtown and a grandson, Matthew Eric Lundberg of Portland, ME, and three great-grandsons.
Funeral arrangements have been made with the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien and visiting hours are scheduled there from 5:00 to 7:30 PM on Friday, August 13, 2010. A service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge in New Canaan at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 14, 2010. A private family interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
