John R. Tweedy, a resident of Redding, CT, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at home. Born in 1929 in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Edmund R. Tweedy and Janet Booth Tweedy. He was 80. John attended Darien schools and graduated from St. Luke’s School in New Canaan. He received his MBA and BS degrees from Columbia University. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was Senior V.P. of Marketing for American Maize Products Co. Inc., President of Boger Brothers, Inc., President of Lloyds Home & Building Centers, a Director of American Maize, A Director of Swisher International, Inc. and Past President of Tweedy & Barnes Cranberry Growers. He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Tweedy of Darien; a nephew, Edmund R. Tweedy Flanigan and his wife, Cindy, of Boulder, CO and their children, Edmund Jr., William, Elizabeth, and Kellen and a sister-in-law, Joan Barnewall Skinner of Denver, CO. He was predeceased by his brother Edmund (Ned) R. Tweedy. A Celebration of His Life will be held in the Taylor Room at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to North Shore Animal League, 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050-3701 or an animal charity of your choice.
