Obituary of Isabel Goff Bunge

Please share a memory of Isabel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Isabel Goff Bunge passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2010 at her home in Darien, Connecticut. She was born February 27, 1936 in New York City, New York, daughter of Homer P. and Gertrude K. Goff, and sibling of Gertrude "Bay" Schafer. She grew up in Darien, Connecticut. Isabel attended Miss Hall's School and went on to Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. After college, she went out to Chicago where she worked in the insurance industry. It is in Chicago where she met her late husband, George H. Bunge. After their wedding, they lived for a brief period in Paris, France and returned back to New York City where their three sons, George, Ham and David, were born. Shortly thereafter they moved to Chicago for five years and then lived in Geneva, Switzerland for fourteen years. Upon Mr. Bunge's retirement, they returned to the United States in 1992 and settled in Darien, Connecticut. Among the many charitable organizations in which she was involved, Isabel participated in the Smith College Book Fair, Darien Historic Society, 60+ Club, Darien Community Association, Antiques Al Fresco, AmeriCares and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was an avid Bridge player, loved traveling, reading and learning languages, loved the Opera and above everything else loved her family. A service will be held in her honor on Saturday April 10 at 2pm at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church. A second service will be held on Monday April 12 at 2pm at Christ Church in Winnetka, Illinois. Isabel is survived by George and his wife, Raquel, and their three children - Isabelle, George and John, Hamilton, and David and his wife, Jenn, and their two children - Christian and Schuyler. We are all shocked to learn of her passing but we know that she has found peace and is surrounded by loved ones. We will miss her immensely. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to three of her most cherished institutions - Miss Hall's School, 492 Holmes Rd., Pittsfield, MA 01201-7196 Smith College and Camp Arcadia. Funeral Home: Edward Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road Darien, CT USA 06820
