After graduating from Parsons in the late 1930's, Mrs. Hewson did the unusual: she pursued a career in the magazine publishing industry for 20 years, rising through the editorial ranks of the Women's Home Companion, Better Homes & Gardens and McCalls, crossing over into general circulation magazines and becoming Editor-in-Chief of Collier's Magazine.

Over the years, Mrs. Hewson served on the Board of Directors of The Visiting Nurse Service of New York, acted as chair of The Brick Church Annual Christmas Fair, and was an active member of the Garden Club of Somerset Hills, NJ and of the Women's Club of Larchmont, NY, where at age 90 she became Editor of the Larch Tree. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club of New York and an opera enthusiast. She and Mr. Hewson were members of the Somerset Hills Country Club, the Essex Hunt Club, and Springdale Golf Club, and she joined the Larchmont Yacht Club at age 84. In retirement, she became an active participant in all things related to the Class of 1933 at Princeton, Mr. Hewson's alma mater, and a beloved grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara C. Hewson of Larchmont, NY, Jane M. Hewson, formerly of Larchmont, now of Riverside, CT and Jamaica, VT, her stepson William B. Hewson, Jr. of Darien, CT and Naples, FL, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on June 12th, at 2:00 pm, at Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT.
