Obituary of Marijane McCurdy

Marijane Coughlin McCurdy, beloved wife of Walter R. McCurdy, for 58 years, and mother of 5, died of melanoma at age 80 on August 20, 2009. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Marijane married Wally, a lifeguard at Breezy Point. They resided in California and a number of cities including Darien and New Canaan, CT. After retirement, they moved to Stuart, Florida for the last twenty years. MJ is survived also by her best friend and sister, Margaret Guthlein and her husband Jack, and their family. MJ is survived by her husband and children: Bonnie, Mary, Matthew, Wally Jr. and his wife Diane, Loraine, and her husband, Bob Little. In addition, she had five grandchildren who will miss their beloved "Grandee" very much. Lila Varel; Cade, Johnny & Patrick McCurdy; Redmond Little and a new arrival expected soon. MJ attended St. Thomas More Church in Darien and was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Stuart, FL. She loved sailing their cruising yacht at Noroton Yacht Club and golfing at Silvermine Golf Club. She read voraciously and encouraged her children to do the same. She and Wally traveled all over the world together. Marijane was a graduate of Packer Collegiate Institute and received her A.B. degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ. Her mixture of kindness, great wit, ability to listen and not judge, and her great love for her family inspire us at a time of great loss. A wake will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Rd., Rte. 1, in Noroton (Darien), CT on Thursday, August 27 from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM. Services will be held at St. Thomas More Church in Darien, CT at 374 Middlesex Rd on Friday, August 28, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name at The College of St. Elizabeth located at 2 Convent Rd; Morristown, NJ 07960-6923.
