Ruth H. Murphy, a resident of Darien passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday August 22, 2008 at her residence. Born in 1914 in New York City, New York, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Semler) Meyler. She was 93.
Ruth graduated from Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY. After raising her family she returned to the work force as an Executive Secretary at the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company, now JP Morgan Chase, in New York.
Ruth is survived by her son, John Murphy and his wife Martha-Reed Murphy of Darien CT, daughter Julie Murphy of Stamford CT, two granddaughters, Katherine L. Murphy and husband Cregg Watner of Greenwich, CT and Courtney Hewson and husband John of Larchmont, NY and four great grandchildren. She was the wife of the late John J. Murphy and sister of the late Marjorie Oliver.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Thomas More on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held at a later date. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien handled the arrangements.
