Joan P. Leith, an 11 year resident of Darien and a former resident of Hempstead, Long Island for over 50 years, died on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Stamford Hospital, Stamford. Born 1931 in New York, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Christine (Artzheimer) Carney and the youngest of their six children. She was 77. Joan worked as an assistant property manager for Diversified Realty Corp for almost 20 years. She was a parishioner of St. John R.C. Church in Darien, an active member of the Darien Senior Center and the Darien 60+ Club. She was a loving mother and grandmother of triplets. Joan had an energy and enthusiasm that was her trademark. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Carney" Leith and her husband, George Chieffi and three grandchildren, George, Teddy, and Genevieve Chieffi all of Darien. She was predeceased by her husband John R. Leith Calling hours will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
