Obituary of Marjorie Phyllis Teater

Marjorie Phyllis Teater, a longtime resident of Darien and a former resident of Wilton, Norwalk and New Milford, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Long Ridge Nursing Home in Stamford. Born in 1924 in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dayton and Gladys (Jones) Roberts.
Marjorie graduated from Wilton High School. During World War II, she was a member of the Women's Land Army (Land Girls) working in the fields to feed the nation. In 1942, she joined the U.S.O. Troop and performed at various U.S.O. facilities in Manhattan to entertain troops including a performance at Carnegie Hall. In 1945, while in New Milford, Marjorie and her family ran Sunny Valley Farm, which was one of the largest dairy farms in New England. She married Ralph Frederick Teater in 1949 and moved to Darien in 1960. She had a great love for music, singing and Elvis Presley.
She is survived by her four children, Scott Teater of Danbury, CT; Rob Teater of Spring Hill, FL; Debra Jaeger of Darien, CT and Jacqueline Zwart of Norwalk, CT; and eight grandchildren, Ayshia Jaeger and Casey Jaeger; Jessica Zwart and Rick Zwart; and Scott Teater, Joseph Teater, Cole Teater and Dawn Teater; and one great grandchild, Daytona Teater. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Willmott of Rowayton. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Teater; a brother, Robert Roberts; and two sisters, Myrna Keeler and Katherine (Kitty) Carroll.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 4:00 PM. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
