Obituary of Jack William Smith
Please share a memory of Jack to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jack William Smith, a resident of Darien, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 in Darien. Born on May 26, 1938 in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Florence (Ab) Smith.
Jack grew up in Pottstown, PA and attended the Hill School. He graduated from Penn State in 1963 with a BS degree in Business Administration. He interrupted his college years to enlist and serve in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Jack worked in advertising sales in New York City early in his career. After moving to CT in 1971, he pursued a career in Commercial Real Estate. He established BID, Builders Investors Developers Realty in Norwalk, CT and organized a Commercial Realtors Networking Group.
He was a member the Westport YMCA Board of Directors, the Noroton Bay Board of Directors and was a Deacon at Noroton Presbyterian Church.
Jack was a life-long fan of Penn State. He was an enthusiastic racquet ball player at the Westport YMCA for many years.
Noroton Bay was his home for 34 years, and he loved everything about living there. It was a fantastic place for his children to grow up in, great friendships and a beautiful spot for his sailboat.
Jack was an adventurous and skilled sailor. He enjoyed many family vacations cruising on Long Island Sound to Block Island, Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket. He loved entertaining friends on his boats and at his home.
The arrivals of his daughter and then of his son were the high point of his life. He treasured and admired his children, their spouses and his three precious granddaughters. At the end of his life, he was also delighted to know that a grandson was soon to be born.
The family would like to express their thanks to Luc Pierre for his compassionate care of Jack and Constellation Home Hospice for their support.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Tholine (Oare) Smith of Darien; his two children, Michael B. Smith (Jennifer) of Shrewsbury, MA and Katherine T. Murano (Glenn) of Southington, CT; and three granddaughters, Mackenize and Alison Murano and Eisley Smith.
