William Wright Lester passed away unexpectedly at age 84 in Darien, Connecticut on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Bill, as he was known, was born May 14, 1934 in Lansing, Michigan to Harry and Ireta (Wright) Lester. Bill was raised in Carleton, Michigan. After graduating from Airport High School, Bill went on to Michigan State University, where he earned Bachelors, Masters, and PhD degrees in Physics. Bill later completed a two year postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University. A longtime resident of Michigan and Massachusetts, Bill relocated to Darien in 2014 where he lived the best years of his life near his son, daughter-in-law, and seven of his grandchildren. Bill's many hobbies included amateur radio, duplicate bridge, listening to classical music, photography, speaking Spanish, and doing genealogy research. Bill is survived by his brother Bruce Lester of Temperance, Michigan, sons Robert Lester of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Andrew Lester of Darien, Connecticut, and nieces Nancy May of Carleton, Michigan and Mary Danzeisen of Temperance, Michigan. He is also survived by great-nephews Tyler and James May of Carleton, Michigan. Bill was a devoted "Grampaw" to Katherine, Andrew Jr., Lucy, Connor, Chase, Savannah, and Schuyler Lester, all of Darien, Connecticut, and to Kevin Lester of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Visitation will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, Connecticut on Friday November 16 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A Funeral Service will be held at the same location at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.
