Obituary of John Lewis Jones, Jr.

John Lewis Jones, Jr., 88, died at Stamford Hospital in Stamford on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Born in Waterloo, IA on May 21, 1919, Jack was the son of the late John Lewis Jones and Lucille Johnson Jones. The family moved to Stamford, CT from Akron, OH in 1934 and he graduated from Stamford High School in 1936. After high school, Jack completed a business course of study at Merrill Business School in Stamford. He then continued his studies at Columbia University and received a certificate from the Academy of Advanced Traffic. Jack then went to work for the Traffic Department at Yale and Towne Manufacturing Company where he routed shipments of essential hardware and pumps to support the war effort. He then took a position as Traffic Manager at the Rubberoid Company in Manhattan. Shortly, after World War II, Jack and his father acquired Stamford Wall Paper Co., Inc., and he had a long a successful career in wallpaper manufacturing until his retirement. In 1947, Jack and Marion Davis of Stamford were married and soon moved to Darien to being their family. Jack and Marion enjoyed ballroom dancing and were charter members of the Darien Dance Club and the Country Club of Darien. Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marion Davis Jones of Darien; a daughter, Susan Jones Stornelli and her husband Mark of Kennebunkport, ME; a son, J. Richard Jones and his wife Jammi of Darien; and three grandchildren; Brian A. Stornelli of East Boston, MA; Hilary L. Stornelli of Kennebunkport, ME and Jessica L. Jones of Darien. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien handled the arrangements.
