Obituary of George Martin Skelly, Jr.

George Martin Skelly, Jr., a 32-year resident of Darien, CT, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in Darien, CT. Born in 1924 in La Romana, Dominican Republic, he was the son of the late Marguerite E. Hoye and George M. Skelly, Sr. He was 85. During the Second World War, George Skelly enlisted in the United States Navy and served with Naval Intelligence in the Caribbean. Following the war, he received his J.D. from The George Washington University School of Law and a Bachelor's in Political Science at George Washington University. Thereafter Skelly served as an attorney with the United Fruit Company for 37 years in Costa Rica, Boston, and New York City and held the title of Senior Vice President and General Counsel. George M. Skelly, Jr. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Doyle Kansas Skelly of Darien; his son, George Skelly, III, of Darien; his daughters Lyndon-Mary Skelly-Hausler of Fairfax, VA, Kathleen Kansas Skelly of Boston, and Sharon Skelly-Theroux of Mansfield, MA; and six grandchildren: Laurel Hausler, James Hausler, Lee Anne Hausler, Katie Hausler, Millie Theroux, and Katie Theroux. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie W. Lord of Miami Shores, FL, and by two brothers, Richard D. Skelly of Miami Shores, FL and John T. Skelly of Fort Lauderdale, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Needham, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM.
