Marlene Hodges Ettari (72), passed away at home on September 3, 2024, after a courageous and strong battle with ALS. Born on February 12, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY to two hardworking immigrant parents, Marlene was a force with the world from the day she was born, never shy with her opinions and point of view. She met Paul in New Rochelle when they were setup by both of their parents and her first impression was that he had great shoulders. They were married at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle, NY. Marlene and Paul eventually made their way to Darien, CT where they raised two wonderful children: Paul August and Chloe Christine. She spent her time working for big stores like Bloomingdales and eventually transferred into a successful real estate career. She continued her passion in real estate by flipping several of their own homes and was always available to help a friend or family member searching for a home. They also purchased a home in Vero Beach, FL so they could be true snowbirds and spend half of the year in the sun by their pool and close to Marlene's family.

Marlene was a loyal and protective wife, mother and friend. She filled the lives of those around her with love, radiance, and laughter. Although the diagnosis and prognosis were bleak, she conquered her remaining time with so many special moments. She celebrated her 41st wedding anniversary with Paul, enjoyed a family Christmas with her children and grandchildren, watched her daughter, Chloe, get engaged and then married in a small backyard ceremony, and had her son, Paul August, in Connecticut on a regular basis to boss around all her nurses and provide additional care. In addition, she reconnected with friends, celebrated her grandchildren's birthdays, and spent her final days watching the US Tennis Open.

Marlene's legacy is one of surviving, hope, and unconditional love to those closest to her.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; Son, Paul August, and his wife, Angela; Daughter, Chloe, and her husband, Brandon; Sister, Nikki Murphy; Mother, Gertrude Hodges; Grandchildren, Emma and Colton; Niece, Marlene Everett; Nephew, Bryan Everett; and countless other family members and friends. She is predeceased by her father, August Hodges. A celebration of life will be planned.
