Obituary of Charles S. Billingham

Charles S. Billingham, formerly of New Canaan, CT and New Milford, CT, passed away April 23, 2020, at his daughter’s home in Asheville, NC. Charles (Butch) was born in Stamford, CT to the late Charles R. and Anne Billingham in 1937. He spent his childhood in Darien, CT.
Charles was predeceased by his wife Gail Anne Brencher Billingham, and sister Joan Billingham Bristol. Charles was a loving father to Jody Billingham Pumroy and Robin Billingham Svensson and beloved grandfather to Jonathan Billingham, Lynne Briggs, Jessica Pumroy, James LaVigne, Tyler LaVigne and Linnea LaVigne. He leaves behind besides his daughters Jody and Robin, their husbands, Jon Pumroy and Bjarne Svensson, 6 great-grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Charles worked for the New Canaan Post Office as a mailman and later an Assistant Postmaster until his retirement.
While living in New Canaan, he was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he was involved in several clubs and for a few years acted as Sunday School Superintendent along with his wife, Gail.
Charles enjoyed marching with the Greenwich American Drum Corp. He started with the Drum Corp as a young man playing the trumpet. After decades of playing the trumpet for the band, he became the Drum Major. He earned many trophies for his performance as the Drum Major for the Greenwich American Drum Corp. Outside of his family, his participation in the Drum Corp was his greatest joy.
Charles enjoyed his family and friends, treasuring every moment and memory. He was glad to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, and created a happy home for his family.
There will be a private ceremony in Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to honor Charles’ memory, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
