Obituary of Margaret Bestercy
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Bestercy, age 100, a life-long resident of Stamford and a former 10 year resident of Darien, passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at The Villa at Stamford nursing home (formerly The Smith House). She was the daughter of the late John Bestercy and Mary Zamba.
Margaret worked at Yale and Town with her identical twin sister Anna who passed away in 1952. They were inseparable and were usually seen walking back and forth to work from Myrtle Avenue. In her younger years, Margaret was a trophy winning bowler. Bowling in the ladies league was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed reading and was an expert at cross word puzzles. She was a devout catholic and would sit in her favorite chair in the morning with her prayer book and many novenas praying for her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her sisters Anna Bestercy, Elizabeth Jerabek, Mary Miller, Helen Bestercy and Dorothy Malachowski all of Stamford. She was the devoted Aunt of Barbara Martin of Naples, FL; Edward J. Miller and wife, Marilyn of Littleton, CO; Maryann Miller Brown of Boston, MA and Robert Malachowski and wife Liz, of Stamford. She was the proud Great Aunt of Christopher Miller and Caroline of Littleton, CO; Melissa Galvan of King of Prussia, PA; Lauren Brown of Boston, MA; and Katie Daigle and husband Matt of Wethersfield, CT. She was also the proud Great Grand Aunt of Nicholas, Shaelyn and Gabriella Galvan of King of Prussia, PA and Shanley Markley Miller of Littleton, CO. Veterinarian and Godchild Dr. Margie Wissman of Wesley Chapel, Florida will also miss her Aunt Miggsy.
Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, her unconditional love and devotion to family. Our hearts will cherish the many wonderful memories but more importantly the happiness in knowing that she will be reunited with her sister Anna.
Our family would like to thank the staff at The Villa at Stamford (formerly The Smith House) for the great care she received over the past five years.
A private viewing for family will be held on May 20, 2017 at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.
