Obituary of Margaret U. Bromfield

Margaret U. Bromfield, a resident of Stamford since 1933, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Stamford Hospital. Born in 1915 in Roanoke, VA, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Iraminta (Booker) Urquhart. She was 93.
Margaret graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke, VA, attended Roanoke College and graduated from Stamford Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for several area doctors and was employed as a school nurse during World War II. As a registered nurse in Connecticut, she attended various college courses while employed as a school nurse.
Margaret's husband was interested in genealogy from an early age and that sparked her interest in genealogy. She became a member of the Stamford Chapter of the DAR, a member of the Daughters of American Colonists, a Deacon at Stephen Hart Chapel Colonial Dames XVII Century and Daughters of Founders and Patriots. She held many offices in these organizations and was State Registrar for Connecticut Society DAC for the years 1983 to 1986.
Besides genealogy, Margaret enjoyed bowling, watching baseball and cooking. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Stamford
She is survived by one son, Richard H. Bromfield of Havertown, PA and one granddaughter, Kathryn Bromfield. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard E. Bromfield, one brother, John H. Urquhart and two sisters, Mildred Oakey and Betty Terrell.
A Service will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private.
