Mary Hair, a long-time Darien resident, passed away on Sunday, January 27 at Stamford Hospital. Although born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she lived in Darien for over 27 years. Mary received a BFA in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, where she met her husband. Also while at Art Center she was awarded the special opportunity of studying for a semester in Fairfield County with well-known illustrators that included Bernie Fuchs, Alan Cober, and Mark English. In 1979, she decided to pursue her career in New York and moved with her husband from Los Angeles to Norwalk. A few months later they purchased their first home in Darien. Her work appeared in a variety of books and magazines, including covers for Business Week and National Lampoon. Mary was also a fine artist and loved the endless possibilities of painting nature. She is remembered by her family and friends for her sense of fun, strong sense of right, and friendly, uplifting, spiritual nature. She is survived by her husband, John, and two daughters, Anna and Kathleen. Service and internment held privately. Memorial donations may be made to Heifer International, P. O. Box 1692, Merrifield, VA 22116-9861. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien handled the arrangements. Funeral Home: Edward Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road Darien, CT USA 06820
