Obituary of Michael Louis Newton

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Louis Newton, 53, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, passed away on March 2, 2017 peacefully at his home after fighting a series of illnesses. Michael was born September 19, 1963 in Norwalk. Son to David A. Newton of Middletown, DE and the late Frieda J. Newton of Darien. Michael's early childhood years were mainly spent in Norwalk, attending elementary and junior high. He graduated from Darien High School in 1981 and then from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1987 with a degree in Business Management. Any job Michael had, he would master. Mike was an accomplished chef and restaurateur. In his early years he was chef at The River Club in Wilton and went on to open his own restaurants, Tomatoes in New Milford, CT. He moved on from that venture only to open another restaurant a few years later, when he opened Two Tomatoes in West Haven, CT. Mike's passion for helping people extended to his real estate career, always going that extra mile to find the right property and helping his clients get the mortgage that fits their budget. The true testament to this was that most of his clients became personal friends who sought his services and advice when they were looking to upgrade. In Michael's spare time he was active in the New Haven community, and for a while sat on the Board of Alderman for the City. His passions included flipping houses, traveling and rescuing animals. He would never turn his back on a stray, a rescue or any animal in need. He always felt compelled to help, both people and animals without hesitation. Beloved by those who knew him, he will be remembered as a bright, kind and loving spirit, which he shared with compassion, consideration & selflessness. He leaves sisters, Tamzin Marchese of Roxbury, CT, Michele Arnold of Cape Coral, FL, Laurie Boski of Ft. Myers, FL, Sandra G. Newton of Fairfield, CT, Melissa A. Newton of S. Glastonbury, CT and brother, David C. Newton of West Haven, CT. Along with many uncles, aunts and cousins. The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the outpour of condolences, hand written letters and cards and support from all the friends that were touched by Michael. Calling hours for Michael will be Thursday, March 16th at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Rd, Darien, CT 06820, from 4:00-8:00pm. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 17th at 11:00am at St. John's Cemetery, Hoyt St., Darien, CT for those wishing to attend.
