Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marjorie North Wadhams, a longtime resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2014. She was 87 years old. Marjorie was born on July 9, 1926 to Charles William North and Alice Lillian Lee. She grew up in Darien with her two older brothers, Russell and Robert, both now deceased. She spent many of her summer days at the beach at Pear Tree Point, where she loved to swim and sunbathe. Marjorie graduated from Darien High School in 1944. While there, she was an active thespian, cheerleader, and served as the senior class vice president. Following high school, she attended Centenary College in New Jersey, where she played on the basketball team and was a member of the Theta Epsilon Nu sorority. She graduated in 1946. Three years later, on April 16th, 1949, Marjorie married Robert D. Wadhams of Stamford. Together they had two children: Russell D. Wadhams, who now resides in New York City, and Christy W. Ehlers, who resides in Mystic, CT. Robert and Marjorie lived happily together in Darien for 47 years. For nearly twenty years, Marjorie co-managed Tots 'n' Teens, a lively local thrift shop whose proceeds benefitted Planned Parenthood. Marjorie was a lifelong Christian Scientist and was active for many years in both the Darien and Greenwich branch churches. She was an avid golf enthusiast and a vocal fan of the New York Jets. She also enjoyed hands-on home decorating. Marjorie loved the company of her dogs, keeping as many as three in her house at a time, most adopted from local shelters. In addition to her two children, Marjorie is survived by two grandchildren: Andrew and Emily Ehlers, both of Mystic, CT. Marjorie was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. A private memorial service will be held later in the spring. Contributions can be made to High Ridge House, Inc., 5959 Independence Ave., Bronx, NY, 10471. Funeral Home: Edward Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road Darien, CT USA 06820
