Obituary of Thomas U. Muniz

Thomas U. Muniz, 90, husband of Emily D. Muniz, and son of the late Carmen Llorens passed away Oct. 31 at Wilton Meadows Health Care Center, CT. Born Oct. 29, 1917 in Aquadia, Puerto Rico, he ventured to New York, “the land of opportunity” in 1936. As a Corporal in the US Army during World War II, he served in North Africa, Italy, and Germany from 1942 to 1945 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Following his service in the Army, he worked as an export broker for J. Levine Textile Co. in Manhattan for over 40 years, using his multi-lingual skills with business contacts all over the world. A long time resident of Norwalk since 1972, he spent his leisure time traveling to places far and near, driving his “caddy”, dancing to the Latin tempo whenever an occasion occurred, and taking his 4 grandchildren on frequent Caribbean cruises. A lover of music, travel, and history, he will be dearly missed by his family.
Thomas U. Muniz is survived by his wife of 65 years, Emily D. Muniz, his daughter, Deanna Supple and her husband David R. Supple, his grandchildren, Kerry Nelson, Marina Fleming, David and Ryan Supple, his great grandsons, Luke and Peter Nelson, his sisters, Georgina Llorens Lymond and Mercedes Torres, and nieces, Rosie Lymond and Regina Figueroa.
The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, November 5 at 9:30-11:30 AM. Following a Mass of Christian burial at St. John’s Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien, at 12 noon, his interment will be at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. John’s Church, Darien, CT.
