Dale Edward Miller, 47, of Darien, Connecticut died on Thursday, December 5, 2013. Surrounded by his loving family, he succumbed after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Hillary Bachmann Miller, his daughter Amanda Chase Miller and his son Dale Edward Miller, Jr. He is also survived by his mother Carolyn Dale Miller, his sister and brother-in law, Victoria and Gregory Smith, nephew Spencer and niece Lindsay, and father-in-law Thomas Bachmann. Dale was born in New York City on August 23, 1966. The son of Carolyn Chase Dale and Ross Arnold Miller, he was predeceased by his father. Dale grew up in Darien, attended The King School in Stamford, CT and graduated Darien High School in 1985. After graduating from DHS he attended Tulane University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. In 1989 he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Economy and Philosophy from Tulane. Dale began his career in 1989 at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. He joined Credit-Suisse when the bank merged with DLJ in 2000. He went on to have a successful career in asset management at Credit Suisse rising to his current level as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Private Banking Americas. He has held many positions including Head of Private Banking Americas Wealth Management Solutions, and Head of PB USA's Capital Markets and Investment Products. He helped lead the firm as a member of several global operating committees. Dale was a committed and passionate Darien community member throughout his life. As a child, Dale learned to sail at Noroton Yacht Club and his passion for being on the water remained. Dale was a member of the first Varsity lacrosse team at Darien High School and an avid hockey player in the early years of Darien Youth Hockey. He was proud to continue serving Darien sports as a coach of youth hockey and girls softball. Dale selflessly volunteered his time and resources supporting many institutions including The Swiss Institute, the NYSE Hearing Board, the Republican Town Committee of Darien, The Game Conservancy USA, and the Town of Darien Firefighters Foundation. Dale was a uniquely positive spirit who pursued his many passions. An avid sportsman; he hunted grouse and partridge on many estates in England and Scotland, including the grounds of Queen Elizabeth's Sandringham Estate. He also enjoyed skiing, boating and gardening. Dale was a devoted fan of the NY Rangers and attended every home game possible. Dale was a beloved member of The Union Club in the City of New York, The Tokeneke Club, Wee Burn Country Club, and The Lyford Cay Club, Nassau Bahamas, where he relaxed on the beach just days before he died. A Mayflower descendant of Stephen Hopkins, he is a member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants. Most of all, Dale was a loving husband, father and friend. Dale was a gifted communicator and had a genuine interest in others. He took an active part in his children's lives and interests and imparted to them his simple wisdom to "stay positive" and "be awesome!" Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien, CT at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 12.
