Obituary of Jean Robinson Burke

Jean Robinson Burke of Noroton, CT, died on Thursday, July 5th, following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Jean has enjoyed her waterfront residence in Noroton since 1948, and has for the last four years been in the excellent care of Greenwich Woods Nursing Home, where she died peacefully Thursday morning. Jean was born in New York City on June 6, 1916, to Katherine McCuaig Robinson and Luke Robinson. She studied fine art and fashion at Traphagen School and the Art Students League in New York, and pursued a long and interesting career as a fashion executive with Revillon Freres and Saks Fifth Avenue. Jean loved swimming in Long Island Sound and was a passionate skier. She was a great a cook, and frequently entertained her numerous relatives and friends. Jean was married to Gregory Thomas Burke from 1941 until he died in 1981. She is survived by both her sons. Duncan Gregory Burke, married to Nancy Brookfield Burke, lives in Greenwich; and Roderick Crimmins Burke, married to Claire Ossorio Burke, lives in Palm Coast, FL. She enjoyed her six grandchildren, Marion Burke De Guzman, Alexandra Burke Dibble, Adrian Burke Zeller, Sean Crimmins Burke, Shannon Burke FitzGerald and Roderick Ian Burke and one step-granddaughter Brookfield Alyce Fitzgerald. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Anna Dibble, Evy Dibble, Felix Zeller, Bridget FitzGerald, and Eva Burke. Jean’s three sisters Margaret Nyquist of Darien, Louise Wilkinson and Katherine Robinson both of Shippan predeceased her. She is also survived by three nieces, Grace Hallenbeck, Jean Painter, and Anne Nyquist.
