To John's Family: Unlike the many others who will sign this guestbook, I never had the opportunity to meet John. I knew him only through stories told to me by his brother-in-law John. Even though I knew him indirectly, I have always been awed by his courage, his devotion to his family, and the strength he showed in the toughest times. He has been an inspiration to me and was often in my family's prayers. May God welcome him with open arms, and may God Bless his entire family.

John was someone I met early on after starting on the liaison desk at CIBC back in 2004. He had spent time working on the desk, and had come over to see who the new guy was. I remember immediately reassuring him that I was just a regular guy, and not a pompous arse of a Brit, after he recounted his experiences with an over-the-top anglophile american who had worked with him. His stories were hilarious, but always conveyed in John's very deadpan manner. He was one of those guys that every trading floor has to have around - a great story-teller, a passionate sports fan, a no-bs, tells-it-like-it-is broker, and as a father, an example of someone who balanced his real life with the business we work so hard in. He will be missed, but fondly remembered.

Dear Erin and family, As I have always told you... you and John, and the kids, were the "best things" about Stamford when we first moved here. Getting to know John was a pleasure and an inspiration. He was a "true man" possessing the qualities of humility and sensitivity for all beings. He valued his life and protected it until the end. He was a special friend to all. You Erin, gave him the best years, sharing travels and skydiving together, while bringing three beautiful children into the world. John will live on in Sean, Bridget, and Ryan, and you will persevere. I respect your courageness and determination and consider myself lucky to be your friend. We will miss John terribly but will treasure our memories of his smile, his passions (NY Yankees, biking), and his sincerity overall. May God bless you and keep you strong. Husband, son, brother and life's greatest role of all, that of Daddy. No doubt John was larger than life and the star character in so many of your life journeys. To those of us at CIBC, he was a valued colleague second but a friend first. I need not describe his heroism and courage, for you know its greatness, but I do need to tell you how many of us he inspired. John epitomized the meaning of inspiration for me. I was working with John for a few months before finding out he was sick; he never displayed a “pity me” card (though I did wonder why he had a picture of himself on his desk with the words “F@%# CANCER” below it.) I had the great pleasure of working with John for a little over 2 years and I will miss him greatly. I will miss his straight from the hip comments, his long funny emails about mundane things, and most of all, his ever present smile and determination. Foremost, John was a family man who often expressed his love, pride and adoration for Erin and his children. Through it all he felt that the best way he could be a father was to teach his children to give back to the community. Sean, Bridget and Ryan – words cannot express what a great person your father was. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
