Obituary of Susan Hoyt Morris
Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Former longtime resident of Bell Island, Rowayton, Susan H. Morris, died at home at Atria Darien on May 1. Known to all as Susie, she was an avid reader who enjoyed living near the coast, sailing on Long Island Sound, cooking, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and spending time with her extended family. She was a lifelong student who passionately attended continuing education classes, lectures, and cultural events. Susie was a great listener and conversationalist who always put others first and was a friend to all. She found the good in everyone whom she met. Susie was an inspiration to all as she optimistically engaged in activities and outings. Susie's love for life and family was evident in all that she did.
A native of Fairfield, Susie graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and Stanford University. She began her career as an executive assistant with BBDO in New York City. After moving to Bell Island in 1963, she worked for many years at Derektor Shipyards in Mamaroneck, NY and locally at Ely Boat Works.
Predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Howard Morris, Susie is survived by her identical twin sister, Cynthia "Impy" McGloon of New London, N.H., her brother, G. E. "Bunch" Hoyt, Jr. of Cambridge, NY, and nine nieces and nephews and their children. A celebration of Susie's life will be held on Sunday, May 19th at 1:30 p.m. at Atria Darien, 50 Ledge Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society Connecticut Chapter, 659 Tower Ave., Hartford, CT 06112 or Norwalk Land Trust/Farm Creek Preserve, P.O.
