Obituary of Steven W. Diehl
Please share a memory of Steven to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Steven "Steve" W. Diehl of Darien and Trumbull, passed away at the age of 69 on May 3, 2013 after a battle with lung cancer. His wife and children were by his side.
Born in Elizabethtown, NY on February 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Everett Diehl and the late Annette Larsen Diehl being preceded in death by his brother Curtis.
Steve graduated from Greenwich High school and served in the US Air Force. He enjoyed his four years in the service and had many stories of his job as an airplane mechanic in Okinawa Japan.
Once out of the service Steve had many different and diverse jobs but will be remembered for his 15 years as owner of Ace Lock and Lawnmower in Darien. Called "Ace" by many customers he was noted for being able to fix a lawnmower with uncanny ease. He was also proud to have his family work with him during that time, with wife and children running around the shop helping wherever they could.
After the closing of his store, Steve held a few different jobs. His last two being a school bus driver for the Town of New Canaan and working at Hiller Sports in Norwalk.
Steve enjoyed his many interests. He loved cooking and was always coming up with new dishes. His family will greatly miss his fried rice and spare ribs. One of his greatest delights was watching people enjoy the food he had prepared. He enjoyed gardening and planting with a "green thumb". Later in life he discovered his talents in woodworking, making many beautiful pieces of furniture.
Steve had a lifetime enjoyment in fishing. He could talk non-stop about his trips from Lake Champlain in VT and to the Florida Keys. He carried over his hobbies by making his own beautiful fishing rods and lures. Steve's life goal was accomplished when he built his 16 ft flats fishing boat in his back yard. Joy was his when he took his kids out looking for the next "big one".
Steve is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife Maureen and his three children Brian, his wife Kimberly, and their daughter Elizabeth, as well as his son Sean and daughter Catherine "Katie". He loved them very much and was so proud of them. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
