Obituary of Katharine Ward Oliver

Katharine Ward Oliver, of Roton Avenue, Rowayton, CT, died on Tuesday, April 2nd. She was the beloved wife of the late E. Wesley Oliver, Jr.
Born April 8th, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles Louis Ward and Katharine Mailler Ward. Raised in Brooklyn, with summers in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Katharine resided in Huntington, Long Island for most of her life. She spent many summers in Shoreham, Long Island, where her husband's family lived. Following her husband's death, she moved to Rowayton, CT to be closer to her sons' families. Katharine died at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk, CT, where she was lovingly cared for since December.
Katharine was a graduate of Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn. Her interests included gardening, sailing, service to others, and painting, in her later life. Her passion for gardening and flower arranging included a long association with the Nathan Hale Garden Club of Huntington. Later, she was a member of the Rowayton Gardeners. Katharine spent many wonderful years on the water, including rowing in Atlantic Highlands, cruising with her family on Long Island Sound and supporting her husband and the New York Yacht Club Race Committee through several America's Cup campaigns. She was a member and Deacon of Old First Church in Huntington, and later a member of Rowayton United Methodist Church.
Katharine is survived by her son Wesley Ward Oliver of Rowayton, his wife Lynn and their sons Christopher and David, and by her son Charles Ward Oliver of Attleboro, Massachusetts, his wife Wendy and their sons Jeffrey and Jonathan.
A Memorial Service and celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, April 13th at 2:00 P.M. at the Rowayton United Methodist Church, 5 Pennoyer Street, Rowayton, CT 06853.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made either to the Endowment Fund of Rowayton United Methodist Church or to Notre Dame Convalescent Home: SSTV/Capital Improvement, Attention Sr. Marie Lucie, 76 West Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT 06851.
