Obituary of Carl S. Matlak

Carl S. Matlak, Sr., of Southbury, died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Danbury Hospital after a long battle with Parkinson Disease. He was the husband of Viola (Thompson) Matlak of Southbury.
Mr. Matlak was born on November 22, 1926 in Port Chester, NY, son of the late John and Katherine (Derda) Matlak. He grew up in Stamford where he attended local schools.
Mr. Matlak was a well known musician heard over Coast to Coast Radio Network, including the Buster Crabbe TV and Radio shows. He taught music at the Stamford School of Music and was the manager of the Alfidi Accordion Studios in Darien. He also owned the Matlak Music Store in Stamford. He later worked at the Quality Control Unit of Machlett Labs Division of Raytheon.
A longtime resident of Darien, Mr. & Mrs. Matlak moved to Southbury in November 2000.
In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, he is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Urkawich of Southbury, two sons, Joseph Matlak of Charlotte, NC and Richard Matlak of Darien. He is also survived by one sister, Georgianna Matthys of Darien; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son, Carl S. Matlak, Jr.; two sisters, Elizabeth Laslo and Adeline Rosice and three brothers, John, Joseph and Edward Matlak.
The family will received friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Friday, February 2, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R. C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at S. John Cemetery, Darien.
