John F. Phillips, a resident of Darien, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at the age of 98. Born on May 23, 1917, in New York City, he was one of six children born to John Phillips and Mary Mulligan Phillips. John graduated from Fordham University and after graduation served in the Air Force from 1941 to 1945. After an honorable discharge he spent 32 years as a pilot for TWA. He was an avid golfer, card player, and sports enthusiast with a tremendous love for his family and friends. Predeceased by his wife Anne Lynch Phillips in 1991, John is survived by 5 children Anna Lynn Phillips of Coffs Harbour, Australia, Jeanne Keenan and her husband Kevin of Oakton, VA, Pat Coffey and her husband Bryan of Edwards, CO, Elaine Stinchfield and her husband Dick of Darien, CT, and John Phillips Jr. and his wife Ginny of Chicago, IL, along with nine grandchildren and eight great-grand children. A service immediately followed by burial, will be held in the Gate of Heaven chapel at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery 10 W Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, New York at 10:30 on Friday February 5, 2016. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the volunteer ambulance service in Darien, Post 53, P.O Box 2066, Darien, CT 06820.
