While George was at Metcalf and Eddy and I was a principal of Hazen and Sawyer, our companies were in a joint venture in the development and design of water treatment facilities for New York City's Croton water system. George joined Hazen and Sawyer and continued on the Croton project and I worked closely with him for twelve years. He had outstanding qualifications, experience and high ethical standards. Many years before our firms were involved in the Croton water treatment project, George was on the Darien Town Sewerage Board and Hazen and Sawyer was selected to plan and design new sewers and a waste treatment facility for the town. This led to a major project to extend sewers throughout much of the town and and development of an agreement with the City of Stamford to pump the Town's sewage to an expanded and upgraded Stamford facility. This allowed the Town to close its old wastewater treament facility on Nearwater Lane. Our sympathy to George's wife and children.
