Isveno Maccarni "Mac", 92, of Stamford Connecticut passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday January 8, 2016 at Stamford Hospital. Mac was born in the Bronx on May 28, 1923, to Maddalena and Orlando Maccarni. Mac graduated from High School in the Bronx, and entered WW II as a ball turret gunner. Mac served 2 tours during the European Campaign, and was exceptionally proud of the service to his country. Mac remained connected to his B17 Crew and was known to be the last living member of this esteemed group of men. Following his final tour in the service, Mac worked in Thule, Greenland with the Army Corp of Engineers before returning home to the United States where he had a varied sales and management career working for Martarelli Brothers and most recently Eastchester Lincoln Mercury.
Mac is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Joan Maccarni of Stamford, his son Robert Maccarni of Austin Texas, Donna and Stan Berizzi of Stamford CT and his beloved grandchildren Samantha and Carly. Mac was predeceased in 2013 by his daughter Ellen Maccarni Hershey. Mac is survived by his sister Amy Pavone, and was predeceased by his sister Lee laVerdi.
Interment has been handled by the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien, Connecticut, and a memorial mass will be held at a later date at Saint John's Church, in Darien Connecticut.
Mac's family would like to thank the staff at Masonicare and Stamford Hospital Main 3 North, for the exceptional care during the final days of his life. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in his honor to Main 3 North c/o Stamford Hospital Foundation 1351 Washington Blvd. Stamford Connecticut 06903.
