Obituary of Silvia P. Nesi

Silvia P. (Ambrosino) Nesi passed away on Sept. 13 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield, Conn. after a long illness. She was born on Nov. 1, 1923, on the Italian island of Procida to Antonio and Giulia (Ruocco) Ambrosino. She had five siblings. The family emigrated to the U.S. when she was a young girl and settled in New York City, residing in the Bronx for many years before moving to Pelham, N.Y. Silvia graduated from Hunter College, earning a degree in business. She was a co-founder and for over 25 years the president of Siegman-Ambro, Inc., Manhattan’s leading custom lampshade design and manufacturing company. Among Siegman-Ambro’s clients were the Kennedy White House and many of New York’s leading interior decorators. After retiring from Siegman-Ambro, Silvia founded a successful bookkeeping service for interior design firms. Happily married to the late Rocco J. Nesi for 52 years, Silvia is survived by her sister Rose Puglia of Port Chester, N.Y.; three children, the Honorable Anthony R. Nesi of Attleboro, Mass.; Giulia Nesi Plum of Redding, Conn.; and Victor J. Nesi of Darien, Conn; and eight grandchildren. Silvia believed strongly in the importance of family. During the summer, on weekends, and on holidays, she gathered her many relatives together for lively conversations and long Italian meals, first at her home in Pelham, N.Y., and later at her home on Fairfield Beach, Conn. A wake will be held on Sun., Sept. 17 from 3pm to 7pm at the Lawrence Funeral Home at 2119 Post Rd. in Darien, Conn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the chapel of the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y., on Mon., Sept. 18 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Silvia’s memory be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut, 279 New Britain Rd., Kensington, Conn., 06037; or the Jewish Home for the Elderly, 175 Jefferson St., Fairfield, Conn., 06825.
