Obituary of Edna Markle Davis

Edna Markle Davis, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, NY and summers in Siasconset, MA, died on September 9, 2006 at the age of 103. She was recently a resident at the Watermark at 3030 Park Avenue Assisted Living Residence in Bridgeport, CT.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Mrs. Davis was born on June 26, 1903 in Salem, MA. She was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude Markle. Moving later to Rochester, NY, she graduated from the Rochester High School and earned her certificate as a registered nurse from the Rochester Hospital. Her career took her to New Rochelle where she was nurse for many years at the New Rochelle Hospital.
Mrs. Davis married the late Lee Parsons Davis, former District Attorney of Westchester County and later Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New York. She was a member of the New Rochelle Presbyterian Church and active in many organizations in the area.
Her summers were spent in Siasconset, MA on the island of Nantucket enjoying it with many in the family home “Seaward” overlooking the Atlantic. She became one of the first women to be admitted to the Wharf Rat Club, an institution of renowned story tellers on the Island.
She was predeceased by her husband and two stepdaughters, Jean Davis Brown of Darien, CT and Harriet Tyler Lee of Coronado, CA. She is survived by her grand step daughter, Joan Brown Porter of New Canaan, CT and Siasconset, MA and three other grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. Services will be private.
