Dominick Francis Tuccinardi passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012. He was born in Darien on March 23, 1928, the sixth son of the late Anthony and Nancy Conti Tuccinardi.
Dominick attended Baker, Middlesex Junior High, and graduated from Darien Senior High in 1946. After a short time at St. Philips Neri prep school, he enlisted in the Army making it his career. He served with the Army of Occupation in Japan, The Korean War, Germany during the Cold War and with NATO in Fountainbleau, France. During his time in Germany, he met and married Anne Walsh, who was serving with Army Special Services. They were soul mates, traveling throughout Europe during Dominick's deployments. When they returned to the States, they made their home in the Washington, DC suburbs. The last years of Dominick's service were spent with the ROTC at Georgetown University and at Walter Reed Hospital retiring in 1972 with the rank of Sergeant 1st Class.
He was an employee for many years of Thomas Saltz & Son and Raleigh, famous men's haberdashers in the Washington area.
Dominick and Anne moved to Connecticut in 2010 and Dominick moved to Atria of Darien in 2011. He always considered Darien as "Home".
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years in June 2011 and by his brothers Pat, Jerry, Hotch, Sonny and Fred. He is survived by his brother Albert of New Castle, CA; his sisters Phyllis Pagano of West Norwalk, Yolanda Maffucci of Darien and scores of nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery where he wished to be buried. Dominick and his six brothers are all veterans of World War II. They all left from Darien starting in 1942 with the eldest Pat and ending in 1946 with Fred and Dom. A fact the Tuccinardi family was extremely proud of. All the brothers returned safely.
Dominick had a quick wit and a wonderful laugh. He made friends easily and never complained. He will be missed.
Memorial Service will be held at Saint John Parish, 1986 Post Road, Darien at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.
