Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anthony C. Santosus died Sunday, September 3, at his home in New Canaan, CT. He was 76.
Mr. Santosus was born December 23, 1929, in Huntington, NY, the son of the late Frank and Anna Santosus, and had lived in New Canaan for 34 years.
He was inducted into the Army in 1951. After completing basic training at Fort Devon, he was assigned to the finance corps at Fort Drum in upstate New York.
He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1956 with a Bachelors of Science in Economics.
He began his career with the accounting firm Arthur Young before accepting a position as controller with Kliklok Corporation, a packaging machinery manufacturing firm. He retired from Kliklok as Chief Financial Officer in 1987, after 30 years with the company.
He was a member of St. Thomas More R.C. Church in Darien, where he sang in the adult choir and served on the parish council. He was a long-time member of the Country Club of Darien, where he served on the membership and finance committees.
Mr. Santosus was a quiet man who genuinely thought himself lucky and blessed. The grandson of Italian immigrants, he was the first in his family to attend college. In his youth, he was athletic, and played football, basketball and baseball, and he continued to follow sports throughout his life. He was good with his hands, and enjoyed doing projects around the house, both inside and out. Without any formal training, he designed his house in New Canaan, and over the years did much of the carpentry and landscape work himself. Mostly, however, he enjoyed being with his family.
Surviving him are his wife of 49 years, Carol Ann Weil Santosus of New Canaan; one sister, Frances Catapano and her husband Louis of Palm Harbor, FL; six children, Francis (Frank) Santosus of Chicago, IL, Anthony (Tony) Santosus and his wife, Julie, of Gloucester, MA, Dorothy Rizzo, and her husband, Jeffrey, of Belmont, MA, Cathleen (Cathy) Santosus and her partner, James Ferrara, of Northampton, MA, Lisa Rogers and her husband, Thomas, of East Hampton, CT, and Megan Santosus and her husband, Michael Bastian, of Natick, MA; twelve grandchildren, Christopher and Daniel Rizzo, Edward, Mary, John and Colin Ferrara, Brendan, Matthew and Kathryn Rogers, Isaac, Taila and Rachel Bastian; four nephews; a niece; many grandnephews and grandnieces; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, John Santosus, and a sister, Marie Antorino.
Visiting hours will be held at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, Thursday, September 7, 5-8 p.m.
A Mass in celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. Internment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY, at a later date.
