Obituary of Mary Catherine FitzMaurice

Mary Catherine FitzMaurice passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Huntington Hills Center for Health and Rehab in L.I., NY, where she resided to be near her family and where she was lovingly cared for following a stroke many years earlier. She was born in Stamford, CT on August 18, 1921 to the late Blanche Conboy and Daniel Walter FitzMaurice.
Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, teacher, and friend. A graduate of Teachers College Columbia University and the College of New Rochelle, where she enjoyed her post-graduate years as an active alum and record-breaking fundraiser. She was a well-remembered teacher of English for 35 years at Stamford's Dolan Junior High School, and following became a top salesperson for MCI in Rye Brook, NY. Mary was also a dedicated volunteer in the children's ward of St. Joseph's Hospital, and was later an active congregant and CCD teacher at St. John's Catholic Church in Darien. She enjoyed her retirement as a resident of New Canaan.
Mary was predeceased by her brother Jack, and sister-in-law Nancy. Mary is survived by her five nieces and nephews, their husbands and wives, fourteen great-nieces and nephews, and her many cousins living in the Stamford area.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Rd., Darien, CT. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 10 AM at St. John RC Church, 1986 Post Rd., Darien, CT. Burial will immediately follow the service at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
