Obituary of Jessie Walker Searles

Jessie Walker Searles, 95, a former resident of Darien, CT, passed away peacefully at Wilton Meadows in Wilton, CT on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Jessie, who was affectionately known as Jay, was born on March 17, 1917, in Rouses Point, NY. She was the youngest daughter of Edwin James and Nettie Mussen Walker. She and her beloved husband, Arthur D. Searles, who passed away in 1992, raised their family in Hewlett and Garden City, Long Island, NY. Jay devoted her life to her extended family. In 2000, Jay moved to Atria Senior Living in Darien, CT, where she made many friends and became an active member of the community. She enjoyed oil painting and ceramics classes, baking and knitting groups and taking day trips. She was an avid Mets fan and loved word games, puzzles and playing cards, especially Pinochle. She also read extensively. Jay is survived by her daughters, Pamela Miller and her husband Albert of Wilton, CT; Patricia Searles-Kelly and her husband Steve of Whitewater, WI; and Donna Searles of Providence, RI. She is also survived by her two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made in her name to Masonicare Home Health and Hospice, c/o The Masonic Charity Foundation of CT, 74 Cheshire Road, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492 (www.masonicare.org). The family will receive friends at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT on Friday, September 14, from 4-5:30 pm.
