Please share a memory of Constance to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Constance Arthur Barnum, a lifelong resident of Darien, died peacefully on Monday, July 30th, surrounded by her children. "Connie" was born to Graham E. and Claire S. Arthur in New York City on November 10th, 1924. She attended Darien schools, and graduated from Darien High School in 1941. Following graduation, she worked for Merrill Lynch in Stamford until 1944, when she married her beloved husband of thirty-five years, Richard N. Barnum. Connie and "Bud" raised their four children in Darien. After Bud's death in 1979, Connie stepped in to manage Glen Liquors in Noroton Heights, which she ran for nearly twenty-five years. Connie was a member of the Wee Burn County Club for over sixty years, as well as an active member of the Junior League of Stamford for many years. She was a constant inspiration to her children and grandchildren, an avid gardener, a beach lover, a masterful joke-teller, and above all, a fun loving, adored and adoring wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Connie's survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Richard Hokin of Darien, her son, Richard N. Barnum III of St. Thomas, USVI, her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Alan Sokolow of Carmel Valley, CA, and her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and James Love of Darien. Also surviving her are eleven grandchildren, Justin Hokin, Lauren Hokin, Alexandra Frazier, Dane Barnum, Morgan Gall, Schuyler Bailey, Calder Sokolow, Campbell Sokolow, Madelyn Love, Jameson Love, and William Love, two step-granddaughters Dana and Alexandra Hokin, and two great grandchildren, Charlie Gall and Isla Hokin. She also is survived by her sister, Claire Arthur Harris of Darien. Connie's family is very grateful to their mother's extraordinary caregivers, Susan, Nana, and Ellen, who took such loving care of her during the last eight years of her life. A private family memorial will be held in Darien at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Family Center, Inc. of Greenwich, Ct. or The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, Inc. in Stamford. Funeral Home: Edward Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road Darien, CT USA 06820
