Obituary of Gail A. McNell

Gail A. McNell, of Darien, died at home on Monday morning, June 25, 2012 after a well fought fight with cancer. She was 61. Gail was born April 21, 1951 in Queens, NY. She was the daughter of late Robert and Joan Zimmermann. She was raised and educated in Queens and graduated from Queens Community College. During her career, Gail spent fifteen years in venture capital where she was a partner assisting the President of Foster Management Company. Among many interests, Gail was an avid tennis player, gardener and cook. She was a much loved resident of Noroton Bay and was crowned Queen of the Bay. Gail also served as a volunteer on several Boards including Noroton Presbyterian Nursery School and Noroton Bay Property Owners Association. She was a devoted supporter of her children's sporting teams, including the Darien Blue Wave football, gymnastics, lacrosse and sailing teams and the Brown Bears' gymnastics and lacrosse teams. Gail is survived by her children, Jessica Holly McNell of Stamford and Robert Anthony McNell, II of Darien and her brother, Wayne Zimmermann of Queens, NY. She was pre-deceased by her husband of twenty-six years, Barry Andrew McNell. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Gail's life on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Boston Post Road, Darien. Interment will be private.
