Obituary of Valerie Sullivan McIntosh

Valerie Sullivan McIntosh, longtime resident of Norwalk, CT, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015, after a courageous and hard-fought battle against acute myeloid leukemia. Born in Chicago and raised in Michigan and Connecticut, Val attended Staples High School, University of Geneva, Switzerland, and Boston University. She worked as a substance abuse counselor at the Meridian Center and Connecticut Renaissance, and as a family and marriage counselor in her private practice for more than thirty years. She had a special love for horses, music, and art, which she maintained throughout her life, as well as a great desire to help others. However, her deepest love was for her family and her faith, which sustained her particularly over the past two years. She is survived by her devoted husband, Alan; beloved daughter, Elisabeth Rose; beloved niece Margaret Savino; sister Dale Sullivan Blackwedel and her husband Bill; brother Edward Sullivan; brother Mark Sullivan and his wife Nancy; and mother Mary Elizabeth Sullivan. As well as by many cousins. She is predeceased by her sister, Leslie Rohan, and father, Edward Sullivan. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 5-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Valerie's fund for leukemia research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
