Obituary of Anne (Nancy) Noble

Anne (Nancy) Noble of Darien, CT passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Friday, May 8, 2015 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born Anne Carter Brown in West Chester, PA on July 29, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Radford and Katharine Brown and the sister of the late Damon Brown. Nancy is survived by her daughters Katharine Norwood and her husband Steve Mason of Rowayton, CT, her daughter Wendy Norwood of Brookfield, CT and her daughter Nancy Norwood of Darien, CT as well as her sister Virginia Martin of Santa Fe, NM. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Heather Marsh, Jamie Marsh and Lauren Fisher in addition to her five great-grandchildren Willow, Allison, Nolan, Aniya and Evan. Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Raymond Noble in 2012 and her first husband Richard Norwood in 1972. Her extended family includes her step-sons Raymond Noble of Nevada City, CA; Thomas Noble of Shirley, NY and John Robert Noble and his wife MuLan of Norwalk, CT Nancy had a fascinating childhood as the step-daughter of Vicente' Valdez Rodrigues, the Cuban Ambassador to South America. She lived abroad in Havana, Cuba; Bogota, Columbia and Lima, Peru and came to know the customs and cultures of these societies well. She spent most of her academic career at Sanford Preparatory School in Hockessin, DE where she graduated in 1952. While at Sanford, Nancy was an avid equestrian and loved playing field hockey and lacrosse. Nancy had the privilege of learning to play field hockey from the legendary Constance M.K. Applebee who brought the sport to the US. She attended George Washington University. While in her forties, Nancy's husband Ray taught Nancy to fly a single engine airplane. Nancy worked locally for many years, but her most gratifying job was with the non-profit IESC where she helped prepare retired executives to go abroad to assist in business and economic development in third world countries. Nancy loved spending time with her family and her extensive network of friends. Those who knew Nancy, knew how generous she was with her time and resources for all of her friends, family and those in need. She was a true animal lover and cared for her pets including horses, dogs and cats. Nancy was very involved in many local and social organizations. She was active member in her church for over 60 years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 3 pm at the First Congregational Church of Darien, 14 Brookside Rd, Darien, CT 06820. In keeping with Nancy's spirit of giving, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's name be made to the First Congregational Church of Darien, Memo: Pastor's Fund; 14 Brookside Rd, Darien, CT 06820.
