Marilyn "Lynn" Slavin a long time resident of Darien passed away Wednesday May 30, 2012 at Stamford Hospital surrounded by her family.
Lynn originally from Easton Pennsylvania was the daughter of Frank and Doris Davis. She was a graduate of Adelphi University and was a speech pathologist on Long Island for several years before moving to Connecticut.
Lynn is survived by her husband Raymond D. Slavin, son Timothy L .Slavin, daughter Deirdre Slavin-Mitchell and son in law Richard B. Mitchell of Groton MA. She also had two beautiful granddaughters Kelsey and Leah Mitchell whom she loved dearly.
Lynn was a Reiki Master and Quantum Touch Practitioner. She was a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals. She was awarded the prestigious Board Certification in Integrative Medicine by the American Association of Integrative Medicine. Lynn was in private practice with her company Wellness Matters LLC since 1996 and offered Reiki at Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital as part of their Integrative Medicine Program. Lynn volunteered with the VNA Hospice and Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence of Southwestern CT and served on their advisory board.
In 2010 Lynn was awarded the Light of Fire Award for being an "Outstanding Health Advocate" by Moffly Media for her work in Reiki Healing and her advocacy on behalf of hospice caregivers. She served in the Stephen Ministry at St. John's Church and was an active member of St Luke's Healing Ministries. She was a member of the former Darien Counsel for Special Education (parents advocacy).
An avid reader and lover of the arts, Lynn wrote and published her own book "Countless Gifts of Love" recounting her own experience with her Mother's illness and death focusing on anticipatory grief. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women. She was a member of the St. John's Choir.
The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road, Darien CT on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's R.C. Church in Darien on Monday, June 4 at 11 am.
