Obituary of Irene Ohrn
Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene Ohrn of Darien, Connecticut, died peacefully on March 9, 2015, at the age of 94. She was respected by all who knew her and beloved by three generations of her family.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ohrn Taylor (Dennis) of New Canaan, and Nancy Ohrn Matthews (Douglas) of Darien, as well as by her six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Irene was married for over 70 years to Arne Ohrn, who passed away in February, 2012.
Irene was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, and grew up in Stamford. After she married Arne Ohrn the couple lived in Darien the rest of their lives, raising their two daughters. Irene and her husband were both excellent bridge players and avid golfers; Irene and Arne were among the original owners of Vails Grove Golf Course in Brewster, NY and played golf every week until both were into their nineties. During her lifetime, Irene was active in many Darien civic and community organizations. She was proud of her longtime volunteer service with the registrar of voters at the polls and with the local Red Cross, from whom she received a 25-year recognition award. Irene was also a 60-year "golden senior" member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien.
Irene enjoyed arranging flowers from her husband's lovely and profuse garden. She also loved to hear about, and encourage, the academic, social and sports activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who gave her great joy and kept her very busy.
Funeral services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Noroton Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 3401, Darien, CT or Person-to-Person, 1864 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820. www.lawrencefuneralhome.com
