William C. Bell, age 89, of Darien, passed away peacefully March 6, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Born July 28, 1922 in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late Abraham Lincoln and Mary (Yanik) Bell. He was predeceased by his sister Suzanne Laubrich and his daughter Faith B. Nobel.
He leaves behind his son Allan of Darien and daughter Alma (Libby) Stockenbojer (and husband Jimmy) of Stamford, CT. Grandchildren Aaron and Storm Nobel of CT and Kailey, Alissa, Erica and Sarah Stockenbojer of Stamford, CT.
William graduated from Darien High School in 1940. He served in the US Army from 1943-1946, crossing the United States by train. When he returned to Darien he worked for the White Tower and Tom Brock Corporations as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1987 after 40 years. In his retirement William enjoyed traveling to Vermont and New Hampshire with his son. He also attended the writing group at the Darien Senior Center and had several stories published in a Senior Center compilation. He was an active member of St John's Episcopal Church in Stamford, serving as an usher for many years, but is best remembered as St. Nicholas in the annual Christmas Show, a role he played for nearly 20 years.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17th at 1:00pm at St. John's Episcopal Church, 628 Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private.
