I was very shocked and saddened to learn of Bob's passing -- just yesterday, in fact, at the Darien Y, where I knew Bob, although not at all well, from swimming. (Had I known earlier, I would have come by the funeral home yesterday, and regret that I could not, to pay my respects and express my condolences personally.) Over the past several years, we exchanged greetings at the pool, engaged in small conversation. It was not much. But it was enough for me to know that he was an unusual person -- in his genuineness, kindness and outward humility -- and he made a strong impression on me. If one's comportment with strangers, or near strangers, is a measure of a person then what I saw indeed spoke volumes. (Buber's "I-Thou.") And it's all confirmed and reflected in what I have read in Bob's obituary. To Bob's family and friends, please accept my deepest condolences. He was indeed a remarkable man and I only regret that I did not have the opportunity over time to get to know Bob better, to share in his reflected light, which you all experienced so keenly and no doubt will safeguard in your hearts and memories. - Richard Wolfram Old Greenwich, CT

My husband Serafino Carri and I extend our warmest wishes and deepest condolences at the loss of such an extraordinary man. We have known Ana Cristina Farqui for some years and got to know Bob through various fundraising events, and lately at St. Paul's Norwalk, and can only imagine the sorrow she and his family are feeling right now. What makes me smile is knowing of his happiness after fulfilling the vows of his first marriage and then finding joy again with a lovely and loving woman, a love that allowed his life and heart to be full till the end. Now THAT is a life, and Bob lived it.
