Obituary of Stewart R. Lang

Stewart Robert Lang, a forty-year resident of Darien, died at home on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 after a lengthy illness. He was 70.
Born April 10, 1935 in New York City, he was the son of the late Jerome and Margaret Lang. Mr. Lang grew up in Bronxville and Scarsdale, NY, graduating from Scarsdale High School in 1953 and from Colgate University in 1957. He served three years in Japan in the Air Force and returned to earn a MBA degree in 1962 from Columbia University. In 1963, he married the former Ann Shaw in Mahattan.
His business career in real estate finance focused primarily on the New York metropolitan area. Mr. Lang served as a senior officer at several investment banks including Kidder Peabody, Smith Barney, and Merrill Lynch Realty. During the 1990s, he was a principal of Dahlquist & Lang Inc., a real estate consultancy located in Wilton.
An active supporter of athletic programs for the young, Mr. Lang was a founding member of the YMCA basketball travel teams for middle school students. He was in addition a longtime member of Woodway Country Club, where he chaired the paddle tennis committee and played golf. Mr. Lang also served on several community boards, including most recently the Middlesex Commons board of directors.
A devoted family man, he leaves behind, in addition to his wife, two sons and their families; Gregory and Amy Sargeant Lang of Westport, CT and David and Heather Binks Lang of Lexington, MA. Mr. Lang has six grandchildren; Jeffrey, Anna, Jack. Lucy, Cassie and Eliza. He is also survived by his two brothers, Douglas of Mystic, CT and Donald of Concord, MA. In recent years the family has built a residence in Wilmot, NH.
Mr. Lang's life was celebrated on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at a funeral servcie conducted by Father Bartlett W. Gage at St. John's Episcopal Church in Stamford. Burial followed at Spring Grove Cemtery in Darien.
