Obituary of Caroline Ellsworth Lamkin

Caroline Ellsworth Lamkin, a resident of Darien for more than 30 years, died on November 3, 2005 of complications from lung cancer. The daughter of Charles and Frances Ellsworth, Mrs. Lamkin was born in Cleveland, OH and graduated from the National Cathedral School for Girls in Washington, DC and Randoloph-Macon Women's College in Virginia. She also earned a certificate degree from the New York School of Interior Design. Mrs. Lamkin's professional career was spent in New York City as a fashion copywriter, stylist and sale promotion representative for the National Cotton Council, now known as Cotton Inc. After marrying Robert Lamkin in 1961 and living in Larchmont, NY for nine years, Mrs. Lamkin and her family moved to Darien, CT. She became an active community member, serving on numerous boards, including Person-to-Person where she served as president from 1988-1990. Her interest in museum education led her to serve for many years as a docent at the Stamford branch of the Whitney Museum and the Bruce Museum in Greenwich. She was a member of the Altar Guild at St. Luke's and the Garden Club, both in Darien. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lamkin, and two daughters; Leslie Lamkin of E. Norwalk and Melissa Lamkin and son-in-law William Kuesel of Greenwich, and three grandsons. She was predeceased by her son William Thorn Lamkin in 1979. A Funeral Service was held at St. Luke's Episcopal Chruch in Darien on Thursday, November 10, 2005. A private family interment was held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
