Obituary of Frederick R. Scharmer

Frederick R. Scharmer, a long time Darien resident, died Friday, November 25th, 2011 at Long Ridge of Stamford after a short illness. Born on February 16, 1913 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Richard and Bertha Scharmer. He was 98. Mr. Scharmer served in the United States Army during World War II as a first sergeant. He was stationed in South Africa and then in Italy. Originally he was stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Mr. Scharmer was employed by Conde Nast, New Haven Register, and he also worked as an actor at the Darien Dinner Theater participating in many of their productions. He was an accomplished artist. He taught many classes at the Silver Guild. Mr. Scharmer started the Troupers Light Opera Company with his wife Ida. He was one of the original members of the Darien Art Council, Darien Players and the Choraliers. He built many of there sets and acted in several performances. Mr. Scharmer is survived by his son Richard Scharmer and daughter-in-law, Patricia D'Orso Scharmer and two step-granddaughters, Kimberly Erickson and Cynthia Erickson and seven great grandchildren all of Darien. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ida Tibbetts Scharmer. A Memorial Service will be held at the Noroton Presbyterian Chapel, 2011 Post Road, Darien on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, I-91 Tech Center, 825 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-3045.
