Obituary of Vincent Timothy McCarthy

Vincent Timothy McCarthy, a 13 year resident of Darien and a former resident of Valley Cottage, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 in Darien. Born April 5, 1920 in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of the late Timothy and Mary (Moynihan)McCarthy. He was 85.
Mr. McCarthy graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers, NY and a graduate of Command & Staff College. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a newspaper man for 45 years starting as a carrier in 1931 and culminated his career as Circulation Director for the Westchester/Rockland newspaper syndicate (presently Gannett Newspapers).
He was a member of the Alan F. Waite V.F.W. Post #299, the New York State National Guard 7th Regiment and retired as a Lt. Col. of the Army Reserves.
He is survived by his beloved wife Frances Wilmot McCarthy; two daughter, Gail Fennell and her husband Lawrence of Fairfield, CT and Diane Rutledge and her husband John of Chestnut Hill, MA and formerly of Darien; and one son Dennis McCarthy and his wife Deborah of Darien, CT. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kimberly Lyons and her husband Tom of Darien, CT; Taryn McCarthy and his wife Greer of Norwalk, CT; Kerry McCarthy of Vail, CO; Riley McCarthy of Darien; Courtney and Megan Rutledge of Chestnut Hill, MA; and three great grandchildren, Kailey and Keara Lyons and Marley McCarthy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John R.C. Church, Darien on Saturday, September 10, 2005. Interment was private.
