Obituary of Jeanne Summa Avery

Jeanne Summa Avery a longtime resident of Norwalk, age 90, and wife of the late William J. Avery, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in Greenwich, CT at The Nathaniel Witherell, where she resided briefly. Born on March 20, 1927 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Summa and Felicia Marciano Summa. Jeanne was predeceased by her sister, Antoinette Wildey, formerly of Ridgefield, CT and sadly many of her lifelong friends. Jeanne is survived by her daughter Maryann Avery Scofield of Stamford, her two grandchildren, David W. Scofield of Delaware and Lyndsey E. Scofield and her husband Alexander J. Witkowski of New Jersey. She is also survived by her sisters Phyllis Summa Saccamano of Norwalk, Pauline Silvester of Norwalk, and Gloria Reed of Ridgefield and her brothers Andrew P. Summa of Greenwich, William Summa, of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Jeanne graduated from Stamford High School in 1944 and attended Shorts Secretarial School. After a long career as a secretary and bookkeeper, she retired from MBI, where she was employed for close to 10 years. Jeanne will be remembered for many things including her contagious smile and genuine love of family and friends whose company and companionship brought her much happiness throughout her life. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 2, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM in St. John Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Burial will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford.
